How to turn a Google Sheet into a phone app — for free, without AppSheet or Glide
You don’t need to connect the sheet. You need the sheet’s shape, on a screen built for a thumb.

“Sheet to app” tools work by syncing your spreadsheet to their cloud. That is why they need your Google login, why the free plan caps rows, and why the app stops when you stop paying. For a personal sheet, you can skip the sync entirely.
Step 1 — Read your column headers out loud
Your headers are the app. “Date, client, item, price, paid” is already a description. Add the one thing a sheet can’t do: a rule.
“A list with: date, client, item, price, paid yes/no. New entries at the top. Total unpaid shown above the list. Red if unpaid and older than 7 days.”
Step 2 — Paste or type your existing rows
Copy the rows from your sheet into the app once. From then on, you add entries in the app — 4 taps, no column K.
| AppSheet / Glide | Described | |
|---|---|---|
| Google login | Required | No |
| Rows on free plan | Capped | Unlimited |
| Works offline | Partly | Yes |
| Keeps working if you stop paying | No | Yes |
| Setup | Hours | Minutes |
Step 3 — Export back when you need a sheet
Accountant wants a CSV? The app can export 1. The sheet becomes an output, not the thing you fight with every day.
- Read headers
- Describe
- Paste rows
- Use on phone
- Export when needed
