Your spreadsheet is too clunky on a phone. Here’s what a small shop uses instead.
Orders, stock, deposits: the 3 sheets every small business fights with — and the mini-app version of each.

Google Sheets is a brilliant tool on a laptop. On a 6-inch screen it becomes a game of pinch-zoom and mis-tapped cells. If you run a small shop from your phone — and most do — you know the moment: a customer is in front of you, you’re scrolling sideways to column K, and you type the deposit into the wrong row.
Why sheets break on a small screen
A sheet is a grid of everything. A mini-app is a form of only what matters, with the sum done for you. Same data, a fifth of the taps, no wrong row.
Orders: from 12 columns to 4 taps
“Order tracker for my bakery: client, item, pickup date, price, deposit paid, status (new / in progress / delivered). Show today’s pickups at the top and the total owed to me.”
Stock: the “low” flag that saves a trip
Stock sheets fail because nobody updates column F at 7pm. A stock mini-app has one job: tap minus when you use something, and turn the row red when it hits your minimum. The red list is your shopping list.
| Item | Left | Min | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flour 25kg | 1 | 2 | Low |
| Butter | 6 | 4 | OK |
| Boxes (large) | 3 | 10 | Low |
| Vanilla | 2 | 1 | OK |
Deposits and balances without formulas
The most expensive spreadsheet error is a wrong balance. “Deposit paid” as a toggle and “balance” computed for you removes the formula you keep breaking. When the customer pays the rest, one tap.
- Describe your 3 sheets
- Use them as 3 mini-apps
- Add a field when you need it
You don’t need a POS system or a monthly plan. You need your sheet, shaped for a thumb. Describe it.
